Top 5 Garments of 2012

2012

New Year’s Eve is upon us and I’m furiously stitching away to make one more garment to round out the year – wish me luck!  My sewing definitely increased in frequency this year, I made 18 total garments and only made seven in 2011.  Here’s a look at my favorite garments that I made in 2012:

1. Christmas Dress

To date, I think this is my favorite sewn garment everrrrr.  The fabric is so loud, the sleeves have a retro feel to them, and I love how comfy it is to wear.  I think 2013 holds a tunic from this pattern in my future.

2. Fit and Flare Dress

This dress was a close runner-up to my Christmas dress because of how easy (and perfect!) it was to fit and the boldness of the fabric print.  Even though I felt pretty fancy with this poofy skirted dress, I got to wear it on several occasions, none of which were to a “square dance.”  Ahem, Chris.

3. Ignite Dress

This dress got the most wear out of everything I created this year since it’s a garment that’s easy to layer into different outfits.  I made this dress specifically for my speech at Ignite Craft Boston at MIT in January:

The dress gave me the confidence to stand up in front of over 200 people and share my, erm, nerdy sewing history.  It was actually a lot of fun!

4. Promaballoona Dress

The fabulous Miss Oonaballoona hosted a Promaballoona in honor of her birthday in August and it gave me the perfect excuse to stitch up a fancy dress…well, that and also the fact that I needed something to wear to a summer wedding.  I dug up a dress pattern I made waaaaay back in college and stitched up a fancy Hawaiian halter dress.

5. Calvin Klein Inspired Top

Ah ha, something that isn’t a dress!  2012 is the year I started to make (some) separates such as this eyelet blouse, inspired by a Calvin Klein RTW top I saw retail for $90.  I got a lot of wear out of this top when the temperatures started to soar in the summertime.

All in all, I’m happy with all the I accomplished in 2012 and my plans for 2013 sewing involve adding more tops and bottoms (eek!), not just dresses, to my self-stitched wardrobe.  What are your sewing goals for 2013?

Happ New Year!  Now back to that last sewing project of the year…
